The banana is a common plant in the Lao PDR because of its association with traditional livelihoods and traditional practices. For ease of use, it is often planted near to homes and in gardens. The banana is easy to cultivate and can grow in any situation, provided the soil is not waterlogged and there is enough sunlight. Because bananas cannot be harvested in the first year, it is best to grow them with other crops such as rice, black sesame, corn, peanuts, etc.
