River weed is one of the best-known food products of Luang Prabang province. The main buyers are tourists visiting Luang Prabang and local consumers who buy it from the market. Khai paen is offered in restaurants as a local speciality. The price depends on where it is sold. In the market it is sold in bags for 30,000–50,000 kip. There is no clear data on foreign exports.
