Botanical Description

Rhizomatous herb up to 1.9 m tall. Leaves 10-30, linear to lanceolate, 10-30 x 2-3 cm, apex acuminate, base attenuate, margin entire. Petiole 3 mm long. Inflorescences arising from the rhizome, spike ovate, 4.5-9 x 4-5 cm, peduncles 4-12 cm long. Flower pale yellow with a pinkish-red patch. Bracts orbiculate 4.2 x 3.6 cm, apex round with dark pinkish to red. Bracteoles oblong, apex rounded. Calyx 1.3-1.5 cm long, tube glabrous, spilled one side. Floral tube 3.6 cm long, corolla lobes ovate to oblong-lanceolate. Labellum yellowish, obovate, apex bifid, near the base pinkish with purple spot, lateral staminodes oblong. Anther white. The ovary is glabrous. 

Flowering and Fruiting from May to July. found in deciduous forest mixed bamboo. 

Description of Use

This species is used as a vegetable by Khmu people, who harvest the plants from the forest. Young inflorescences and young shoots are boiled or steamed, or fried with chili and dried fish.
