Black ginger is a plant with important economic potential. Commercial growing in many areas in Laos is possible and the price is much higher than for other ginger species. Annual harvesting can be achieved. Planting in an area with good soil will be more economical; if the crop is grown in an area with poor soil, organic fertilizer will need to be used and the income will be lower. In general, about 4 ton per 1600 m2 of organic fertilizer should be added when preparing the soil for planting and twice during the growing season. Crops should be weeded regularly until harvesting. It is worth noting that although the financial investment is large, about 25,540,000 kip, the income may amount to about 82,460,000 kip. If a large area is planted, the income per area will be more. Other species of ginger are grown in a similar way, but the costs of rhizomes and seed will be different.
