Botanical Description

Cap 20 cm across, convex, depressed in the center, dull olivaceous brown; extreme margin projecting beyond the tubes, subacute; flesh 2.5 cm or more thick, lemon colored, brownish beneath the cuticle; stem 9 cm high, 2 cm thick in the center, sulcate below, of the same color as the cap, tinged with red brown within; thickened at the base, which ends abruptly; tubes adnexed, lemon colored, 4 cm long.

Description of Use

Food: This popular mushroom, collected from the wild for cooking, produces fruiting bodies from the end of the hot season until the early rainy season. It is used in a soup with young tamarind leaves, som tiew (Cratoxylum formosum) or soap-pod wattle (Acacia concinna). It is said to nourish the body, treat colds, and relieve joint pain.
