Few resources exist for conservation practitioners wishing to assess the effectiveness of freshwater protected areas such as fish conservation zones once they have been established. The guidebook will be circulated throughout Laos and other Southeast Asian countries to improve the management of these zones and strengthen fish conservation.

The Agro Biodiversity Initiative TABI, funded by SDC,  has been supporting the creation more than 150 fish conservation zones in Houaphan, Xiengkhouang and Luangprabang  provinces and hosted the first fish conservation zone meeting in Luangprabang in February 2017, which helped to catalyze the development of this important resource. More information on TABI’s work can be found on www.phakhaolao.la and www.tabi.laLao PDR's first online and interactive agrobiodiversity platform for information sharing and the celebration of Lao culture and heritage.
