Location in Laos: S. tonkinensis is a native and natural resource that is spread in a microclimate of 5 provinces in Northern Part of Lao (PSL, ODX, LPB, HP, XK and BKX), especially in 17 districts and 240 villages. The estimated area of its extent is about 1.92 million hectares. Recent production areas (2015) are about 5,307 hectares, distributed in 3 provinces, 11 districts, and 182 villages and practiced by 3285 families.
Ecological: Upland AE, Upper mixed deciduous forest (>800)
