Saccolabium giganteum Lindl.
Chinese: Hai NanZuan Hui Lan
Small erect orchid with rounded stem, 0.2-0.5 cm in diameter and 5-10 cm long, with five to eight leaves at the tip of young stems. The inflorescence droops from the node of the axillary leaf, reaches up to 25 cm long, and has 35-40 white and pink flowers, 2 cm wide. Found from central to southern Laos.
This species is becoming rare as whole plants are collected from the wild. Harvesting is limited to 4 - 10 plants per person per day and plants sell for up to 500,000 LAK/plants. Euang sang ka is a popular ornamental because of its large inflorescences and long flowering time.
