An ornamental orchid in high demand in Laos. Its rounded and dark violet stem has a white sheath at the nodes and internodes, and is about 0.3-0.7 cm in diameter and 10-15 cm long, with three to five leaves on the tip of young stems. A dense inflorescence grows from the tip of the stems, with many densely clustering flowers. The two to three flowers per cluster are orange, up to 2 cm wide.
This species is very rare and no more than 0.5 kg-1 kg per person per day can be found, with prices at $1.5 per plant. It has a specific habitat, growing in limestone evergreen and mixed deciduous forest at altitudes of more than 1,000 m. Found within Phou Khao Khouay NBCA in Bolikhamxai province.
