It is a good reminder that vegetative buffers in agricultural landscapes can provide a range of important ecological services, including ensuring a high population of insects and spiders for biological pest control as well as being a source of native flora and fauna, enhancement of and reduction of agrochemical drift.  Often, farmers remove such vegetative strips and natural vegetation areas including riparian habitats near streams and at bottoms of hilly land, which is a huge mistake. These are critical habitats for beneficial insects and spiders needed to ensure protection of crops against pests.
