NUOL shines spotlight on science, technology research

The National University of Laos (NUOL) is supporting researchers and students in the development of scientific research, technology, and innovation, aiming to build the capacity of Lao researchers.

In pursuit of this goal, lecturers, researchers, and students gathered on Thursday for the opening of the National Research Forum on Science, Technology, and Innovation for Sustainable Development Before and After Covid-19, which is taking place at the Faculty of Economics and Business Management from November 5-6.

Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Ms. Bounkham Vorachit; Deputy Minister of Public Works and Transport, Dr. Santisouk Simmalavong; NUOL President, Prof. Dr. Somsy Gnophanxay; and representatives of international organizations attended the opening of the forum.
The event was organized by NUOL, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and the National Agriculture and Forestry Research Institute (NAFRI) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.

The forum marks the 24th anniversary of NUOL and celebrates the developing research potential among science lecturers and students by allowing them to display their achievements at an exhibition.

Over 130 research articles were presented at the event, with 60 percent of the work having been done at NUOL.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Prof. Dr. Somsy Gnophanxay said the forum was held to mark the university’s 24th anniversary and give researchers and students the opportunity to present their research and share their experiences.

“The vision of NUOL is to make the university a center of education and research, with its quality recognized in the region and internationally. Its aim is to raise the standard of education and scientific research to international standards,” he added.

“To achieve this vision, our university plans to develop its research and technical services and build support for teachers and students with a keen interest in science.”
NUOL is working with international organizations in these fields with the aim of contributing quality work and services both regionally and beyond.

The university will continue to introduce new projects and produce high-quality research that has a strong impact and enhances its role and reputation.

NUOL Vice President, Associate Prof. Dr. Somchanh Bounphanmy, told those gathered at the forum that there are currently over 1,000 people at the university doing research towards 172 doctorate and 955 Master’s degrees.
