Spondias pinnata is a deciduous tree, up to 20 m tall. Leaves pinnately compound, alternate, with 5–11 opposite leaflets. Inflorescences in terminal panicles, with many creamy-white flowers. Fruits ellipsoid, green and turning yellowish-green when ripe. Flowering in April–June. It can be propagated by seed or branch cutting.
The young shoots are eaten fresh as a side dish or cooked foods. The fruits have a sour flavor and are added in Som Tum, Chilli sauce and yum. The plant is also used in traditional medicine.
