A clustering rattan with a cirrus or flagellum. Its stem grows up to 30 m long with a 0.3 cm-1 cm diameter. Its 0.7 cm-3 cm diameter sheath is green and sometimes striped with white indumentums, while the yellow spines have long red tips. The ocrea is tiny and dry, with no spines or bristles. Leaves are 0.6 m-1.9 m long with a 0.4 m-1 m cirrus. The boat-shaped leaflets are usually 3.5 cm-5.5 cm long and dark-green, while the leaf stalk is 5 cm-30 cm long. Its inflorescence, 0.2 m-1.4 m long, has no flagellum, is erect but droops when long. The pale scaly fruit 0.7 cm-1.2 cm x 0.7 cm-1 cm, has red edges and no grooves and a red nipple at the tip when fresh. Seeds are non-ruminate.
Locally a single rattan shoot is sold for $0.05-$0.07. 5 m canes sell for $0.1-$0.2, and 0.3 cm-1 cm diameter canes for $2.5-$5 per kg. The Vientiane Province rattan factory processes these and sells them for furniture making.
